Hettler, 53, of Muir were held Monday afternoon at two o’clock from the Presbyterian church in Muir with the Rev. A. L. Spafford of St. Johns officiating. Mr. Hettler died Friday morning, August 26, at the Ingham County sanitarium where he had been for about three weeks suffering from tuberculosis, having been seriously ill for about four weeks. He was born May 4, 1896, in St. Johns, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hettler. He moved to Fowler with his parents when small and was graduated from the Fowler high school. He moved to Muir with his parents in 1913. October 8, 1938, he was married to Miss Leona Rock of Cleveland, Ohio, at Bryan, Ohio. They lived in St. Johns and came to Muir to live about five years ago. Mr. Hettler was employed by the Ionia county road commission. He is survived by his wife, Leona, one daughter, Mrs. Ronald Spears, of Detroit; on granddaughter, Linda K. Spears, and a brother, Willis Hettler, of St. Johns. Mr. Hettler was a member of Lyons lodge, F.A.A.M. and also of Evergreen chapter, O.E.S. Relatives from away attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Willis Hettler, Mr. and Mrs. William Hettler, of St. Johns; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Spears and Linda Kay and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Chapin and Pauline of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Snelling of Mt. Pleasant; Lloyd Snelling of Saginaw; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gust and two sons, Richard, Jr., and Tommie, of Baraboo, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bullard of Greenville; Mrs. Jack Green of Lansing; Mrs. Corda Redfern, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Bullard of Lake Odessa, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Baker of Findlay, Ohio. Burial was in Mt. Rest cemetery at St. Johns.
