The deceased had been suffering from ailments brought on by advanced age for a number of months, and for several days his death had been momentarily expected. Funeral services will take place from the church of SS. Peter & Paul Saturday morning at 9:00 o’clock. Rev. Fr. John Maier will read the requiem High Mass. Interment will be made in the Catholic cemetery, at Merriam, Otisco township, where Mr. Hetzel lived many years before coming to Ionia to make his home with Mrs. Laux. Rev. Fr. Door, of Belding will have charge of the burial service at the cemetery, Matthew G. Bradley, of this city, officiating as undertaker. The deceased was born in Pennsylvania on March 22, 1845, the earlier years of his life being spent in that state and in Ohio, where on September 24, 1867, he was united in marriage to Miss Theresa Retterstorf, who passed away April 1, 1901. To this union was given four children, Mrs. Joseph Laux, South Ionia, at whose home he died; Mrs. Laurence Laux, East Washington street; Joseph Hetzel, Jr., Detroit, and Mrs. J. H. Kane, deceased. Shortly after his marriage, in 1867, he came to Ionia county and for many years was a respected and prosperous farmer in Otisco township. He was a lifetime communicant of the Roman Catholic church, was a kind and loving husband and father; and a splendid citizen. A granddaughter, Mrs. John Nolan, and other relatives besides the two children survive.
