Hewitt, 73, of Fenwick died Monday, May 27, 1996 at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born February 27, 1923 in Eau Clair, the son of Clayton and Helen (Arter) Hewitt. He graduated from Eau Clair High School and served as a paratrooper in U.S. Army during World War II. He married Ruth Stencel July 5, 1952 in Ionia. He worked as a milk inspector for 27 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and he also farmed. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ionia. He is survived by one daughter, Ann (Dan) Barz, of Stevensville; three sons: Greg (Barb) Hewitt, of Grand Rapids, James (Maria) Hewitt, of Roseboro, N.C. and Larry (Amy) Hewitt, of Hudsonville; 14 grandchildren; two brothers: Carlton (Helen) Hewitt, of Dowagiac and John Hewitt, of Berrien Center; and one niece and nephew. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ionia with Rev. William Wagner officiating. Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29 at Cook Funeral Home in Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
