IONIA- Ruth H. Hewitt, 63, of Fenwick died Saturday, Oct. 8, 1994, born March 
24, 1931, she was the daughter of John and Crystal (Hawn) Stencel.

She retired in 1991 from Ionia Area Chamber of Commerce where she had been 
executive secretary for 12 years.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Ionia and was graduated from 
Ionia High School in 1949. She was salutatorian of her class.


She is survived by her husband, Lawrence (Dean); three sons, James (Maria) 
Hewitt of Pittsford, Mich.; Greg (Barbara) Hewitt of Grand Rapids, and Larry 
(Amy) Hewitt of Hudsonville; one daughter, Ann (Dan) Barz o Riverton, Wyo.; 14 
grandchildren; her mother, Crystal Stencel of Lowell; four brothers, Jack 
Stencel of Lowell, James Stencel of Ionia, Gerald Stencel of New York and 
Richard Stencel of Fort Collins, Colo.; five sisters, Kathryn Therien of San 
Diego, Calif.; Joyce Dowdy of Littleton, Colo.; Carolyn Huisjen of Fort 
Collins, Colo.' Marian Koelsch of Juneau, Alaska; and Sue Senasack of 
Davidsonville, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, two brothers, and a sister. The family 
will be at Cook Funeral Home Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. 
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Johns Lutheran Church in 
Ionia, with the Rev. Joseph Fremer officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park 
Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for St. Johns Lutheran Church Building Fund and 
Ionia Area Hospice.
