Hewitt, age 86, of Delton, passed away Friday, November 21, 1997 at his residence. He was born March 18, 1911 in Battle Creek, the son of Harry and Alice (Coates) Hewitt. He attended Boutan School in Battle Creek. Clarence was married to Lucille Black in April of 1936 in Kalamazoo. Mr. Hewitt served in the United States Navy during World War II. He lived and farmed in the Lake Odessa area until 1976 when they moved to the Delton area. He was a member of the Orangeville Baptist Church. Mr. Hewitt was preceded in death by seven brothers, Maynard, Theron, Leslie, OD., O.C., Carroll and David; one sister, Myrtle McDiarmid. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; one son, Meredith (Marian) Hewitt of Rockford; one daughter, Shirlene (Frank) Demaray of Potterville; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Hapner of Kalamazoo. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 24, 1997 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Clarksville. Reverend Dan Bowman officiated. Interment was held at Clarksville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Barry Community Hospice or the Orangeville Baptist Church.
