CHARLES M.): IONIA SENTINEL STANDARD, 7-21-1941: "Ida A. Heydlauff, 81, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Everett Derrick of North Plains, Sunday a.m., July 20, 1941, following several month's illness. Mrs. Heydlauff was born in Bolivar, New York, 9-23-1859 and married Charles M. Heydlauff on March 2, 1875. She has resided in Ionia County nearly all her life and was a member of North Plains Disciple Church. Surviving are her husband, 2 daughters, Mrs. Floy Brown, and Mrs. Frankie Derrick of North Plains, son Fred of Durand and one brother Frank Hicks of Six Lakes." IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, (MI), Friday, 7-25-1941, page 4: "Case District - .....the community was again saddened by the death of Mrs Charles Heydlauff, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Everett Derrick, early Sunday. In her death has gone out a wonderful mother and a woman whose influence was helpful in the community. Our mind goes back to the "flu" epidemic of 1918-19, when most of our family was stricken with it. The cooling beverages, and the good things she sent in for us to eat will never be forgotten. The home where she and Mr. Heydlauff lived for so many years and raised their family, now rests on our farm and will be a monument to their memory for many years, the Lord willing, since they built it, and the main part of our house was built by Mr Heydlauff's father, so the two stand side by side, and Mrs Heydlauff was so pleased to come and go all through the house after it was moved here and rebuilt some. The home of Mr and Mrs Everett Derrick was the scene Tuesday of the funeral of this pioneer mother, who leaves her aged husband, two daughters, Mrs Derrick and Mrs Mason Brown of this vicinity, a son, Fred, of Durand, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a brother, Frank Hicks. Rev. A. C. Barr officiated. Mrs. M. O. Greenhoe of Muir and Mrs Melvin Burtraw sang accompanied by Mrs Don Lamphere. Bearers were grandchildren, Clee Brown, Jud Brown of Muskegon, Max Townsend and Russell Holcomb. Interment was at North Plains cemetery. Among those from away to attend the funeral were Mr and Mrs Fred Heydlauff, and family, of Durand, Mr and Mrs Max Townsend and family of Pontiac, Mr and Mrs Jud Brown of Muskegon, Mr Wilson of Durand, and Frank Hicks of Six Lakes. Mrs Everett Derrick has been faithful in caring for her aged parents the past few years. It is only about three years ago since her brother, Myron, who had spent most of his life in the west, came home thinking to help her care for their parents, but he was stricken with a terrible illness even before he arrived here from which he never recovered and through which Mrs Derrick nursed him until his death."
