He was born September 9, 1936 in Stevensville the son of Walter and Elsie (Dykstra) Heyn Jr. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1954. He married Lucille K. Manning February 17, 1973 in Grand Rapids. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for Ameritech in Communications for more than 35 years. He attended First Baptist Church in Ionia. He was a member of the Communications Workers of America for 30 years and a member of the Ionia Moose Lodge. He is survived by his loving wife Lucille; children Brian Heyn of Ionia, Deborah and William Stewart of Georgia and Andrew Heyn of Ionia; grandchildren Grant Stewart and Lauren Stewart of Georgia; one brother Richard Heyn of Lowell; two sisters Anne Archer of Lake Odessa and Barbara Heyn of Ionia; and special nephew Michael Archer of Lake Odessa. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Lynn Heyn, in 1996, granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Heyn in 1986, two brothers, Charles and Ken and one brother- and sister-in-law. Walter loved nature and loved his gardening. Funeral services will be held Monday 11 a.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. James Bennett officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Cancer Research.
