Hasting's Reminder - February 1989

SOPHA L. HICKEY

LAKE ODESSA - Sophia L.Hickey,81, of 14773 Darby Road,Lake Odessa, died Tuesday 
in Pennock Hospital, Hastings.

Born June 22, 1907, in Campbell Township, she was the daughter of Perry & Mary 
(Griffin) Allarding. She was a lifelong resident of the Lake Odessa area, was 
graduated from Hastings High School and Barry County Normal & attended Western 
Michigan University. She taught at Jennings & Darby rural schools.

She was married to Daniel C.Hickey on Dec. 28, 1929. he survives.

She was a charter member of St.Edwards's Catholic Church & its Altar Society. 
She was also a member of Lakeside Grange, Blue Star Mothers, & Ionia County farm 
Bureau.

Also surviving are two daughters & three sons; Mrs.Thomas (Patricia)Curran of 
Grand Rapids James Hickey of Lake Odessa; Mrs.William (Rosemary) Sutton of Lake 
Odessa, William Hickey & Michael Hickey, both also of Lake Odessa; 24 
grandchildren, & 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St.Edward's Church, with the Rev.James 
Bozung officiating.

Burial will be in Mt.Calvary Cemetery, Hastings.
  
Rosary will be said Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Koops Funeral Chapel,Lake Odessa. 
The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday & Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 
to 9 p.m.

A memorial for the Lake Odessa Ambulance has been established, in care of the 
funeral chapel.
