Ionia Sentinel Standard, 6 Apr 1953

Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Hicks, 72, were conducted in Los Angeles,
Calif., recently with burial in Inglewood Park cemetery.  She died Friday, March
27, at the Atadena Lodge Sanitarium where she had been a patient for several
months.  Her brother, Walter Strunk of Ionia was with her at the time of her death.

She was born Effie Strunk Sept 17, 1880, in Ionia city.  She attended Ionia
school.  In 1898 she was married to E.J. Hicks and they moved to Los Angeles in
1912.  She had lived in Los Angeles since that time.

Surviving are two grandchildren and the brother, Walter Strunk, of Ionia.  A
son, Howard Hicks, died in December, 1952.  He was born in Ionia in 1902.
