April 9, 2013 Beverly J. Hicks of Saranac was born Jan. 9, 1931 in Ionia, Mich. Beverly was the daughter of Floyd J. Kenney Sr. and Pearl M. Richey. Beverly went through the Ionia School System and went to work after her sophomore year. Beverly then went back to school and got her high school diploma in 1972. Beverly was married in 1953 to Durward O. Hicks who preceded her in death in 1981. Beverly was also preceded in death by her daughter Linda Sue Hicks, mother Pearl Lincoln, and brothers, Dick Kenny and Floyd Kenny, Jr. Beverly is survived by daughters Pamela (Chris) Hicks of Tucson, Ariz., and Elizabeth (Gregory) Tobias of Sunfield and by sons William (Laura) of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Timothy (Angel) of Greenville. Also surviving are her sister Alice (Don) Jones of Ionia. She is also survived by grandchildren, Weston, Tyler, Madison, Cole, Nathaniel, Clinton and Amanda. Great-grandchildren are Dylan, Brianna, Derek, Jeremiah, Lillian, Isaiah, Wyatt and Hadley. Hobbies include swimming, dancing, playing cards, volunteering at the VFW, Moose, First Christian Church and other charitable endeavors. She worked at Michigan Bell Telephone, Mitchell Bentley, AO Smith, Peskey’s meat packing and numerous other jobs before finally retiring from Amway. Following retirement Beverly found that she needed to be more involved and worked for the Commission on Aging until her death. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to First Christian Church or the Ionia Commission on Aging. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in Ionia on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. No funeral home visitation. Arrangements are with Lehman Funeral Homes, Ionia Chapel.
