Hicks, 89, of Belding, died Sunday morning, Dec. 25, 2011, at Metron of Belding Nursing Home. George was born May 31, 1922, in Wolverine, Mich., the son of Harry and Lottie (Woods) Hicks. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, fighting in the Pacific. In later years he had served as a foster grandparent at Belding Area Schools. He married Clara Bell Shaw on Feb. 26, 1977, in Traverse City and she preceded him on May 31, 2010. He also was preceded by his parents. George is survived by his brother-in-law, Charles Dickens of Mount Pleasant; a sister-in-law, Gloria Dicken of Lewisburg, Tenn.; and his nieces and nephews. Funeral and committal services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Mike Simmons officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment with full military honors will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be given to Metron of Belding Activities Fund.
