Dale was a graduate of Lakewood High School in 1997, and had attended Cornerstone University for two years with plans to enter the ministry before health problems forced him to put those plans on hold. He was a giving individual that felt called to serve in God’s kingdom wherever he was placed. Dale leaves behind his father and step-mother, Frank, Sr. and Deborah Hicks of Middleville; mother and step-father, Patricia and Richard Smith of Portland; brothers and sisters, Frank, Jr. (Staci) Hicks of Grand Rapids, Brian Smith, of Grand Rapids, Blaine (Taunya) Hicks of Middleville, Pam (Neal) Peterson of Battle Creek, Justin Hicks of Middleville, Lauren (Rich) Burtts of Hastings, Bethany Hicks of Middleville, Kevin Hendrix of Philadelphia, PA, Katie Hagen of Middleville, and James (Tammy) Richard of Hastings; grandmothers, Eileen Hicks of Hastings, and Birdie Blackwell of Poplar Bluff, MO; grandfather, George Smith of Falmouth; and many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Blaine Hicks, Lloyd Blackwell, and Homer Hampton; grandmother, Elizabeth Smith; and aunt, Linda Hicks. The funeral service was held at the Lakewood United Methodist Church on Friday, March 2. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Dale’s memory may be made to the Eaton Rapids Assembly of God Bus Ministry, or the Henry Ford Hospital Oncology Unit. Arrangements were made by the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa.
