The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, July 1, 1948
Mrs. Gazella C. Hicks, 75, wife of John Hicks of Rt. 2 died at the Ionia 
Convalescent home at 7:00 o’clock Wednesday evening after being ill for two 
weeks.  She was born November 24, 1872, in Ionia township, the daughter of 
Mrs. and Mrs. Cyrus W. E. Clark, pioneer settlers of Ionia.  She taught school 
before her marriage on November 25, 1891, to John Hicks by the Rev. W. H. 
Scott, pastor of the Ionia Church of Christ, where she was a member for over 
60 years.  She was an earnest church worker and was a member of  Mrs. 
Preston’s Sunday school class.

She leaves her husband, two sons, Ernest of Charlotte, N.C., and Leland of 
Ionia, and four grandchildren. 

Funeral arrangements are pending.
