Higbee, 76, of Ionia Township, passed away very unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002 at his home. He was born the son of John and Grace (Rank) Higbee on Oct. 11, 1925 in Ionia. Bruce was the Ionia Township Clerk for 22 years and an Ionia Township Trustee for 10 years. He was a member of the Ionia Elks, the Ionia Moose and the Banner Grange. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Catherine A. (Johnson) Higbee; his children, Marilyn (Lawrence) Letts of Pewamo, Bonnie (Raymond) Everingham of Carson City, Pat Rogers of Ionia, Stephen Higbee of Mt. Pleasant, and Timothy (Cynthia) Higbee of Ionia; 14 grandchildren, Eric, Adam, Robert, and David Letts, Lisa O’Meara, Theresa Edlin, Tammy Groner, Troy Everingham, Stephanie Schmidt, Justin, Nichole, Alex and Andy Higbee and Kim Boomer; nine great- grandchildren; one sister, Anna Jean (Thomas) Almy of Lyons; one brother -in- law, Lloyd Dickinson of Ionia. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lorraine and Frances Dickinson. Visitation is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home, Ionia. Funeral and committal services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, from the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia, with Rev. David Flagel of LeValley United Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Highland Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the wishes of the Higbee family in care of Cook Funeral Home.
