The family moved to Lyons, where he attended Murphy & Lyons schools and move to Pewamo, where he attended Pewamo School. As a youth he worked as a farm laborer, construction worker, and with the CCC camps before hiring into Motor Wheel Corporation, retiring in 1974 after 37 years of service. In 1944, Glenn joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as Water Attender Third Class on the Destroyer Escort “USS Joseph E. Connally.” After the war ended he joined the Naval Reserve in Lansing and served until 1950. Recently he joined the V.F.W. Edwin J. Leyanna Post #671, DeWitt. In the early years Glenn enjoyed building and racing stock cars and riding his Indian motorcycles. He dearly loved his family, surviving are Laura Mae (Lindsey), his wife of 48 years, daughter, Patricia (David) Downing of Mason, son Paul (Sondra Jenks) of Williamston, four grandchildren, Joshua, Michael (Rachel), Jesse and Amanda, brother Sylvester (Betty) of Mason, sister Ginger Webster of Palm Gardens, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. His greatest pleasure with his family was pulling their travel trailer and enjoying the great sights of the United States. During his retirement years he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home spending winters in Texas and Zephyrhills, Fla. Along with his son Paul, Glenn rebuilt a 1948 Indian Chief motorcycle and enjoy displaying it along with his large collection of antique gasoline engines. Glenn helped Bob Beck developed Beck’s Meadows Flea Market and was the flea market master for many years. He was most proud of establishing and organizing the annual Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Show, which is held every year in May at Beck’s Meadows. One year, Art Wainwright from the WILX TV station interviewed him named him the “Engine Man.” Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Bernita Mooney, and two brothers, Richard and Willard. The family would like to thank all their friends and neighbors for their concern and support during his illness, especially the Trendels, the Gesselmans, and the VanWormers. Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon at the Gorsline-Runciman company DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin St., DeWitt. Interment will follow in Gunnisonville Cemetery, DeWitt, with military graveside services being provided by the V.F.W. Edwin J. Leyanna Post #671. The family will receive friends at the chapel Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church Fund, 14769 Wood St., Lansing, 48906 or to the V.F.W.
