Ionia Sentinel Standard, 14 Aug 1993

Ruth P. Bailey Higbee, 90, of Ionia, died on Friday, at the United Memorial
Hospital Long Term Care Unit.  She was born, the daughter of Wallace and Mattie
Knapp Perrien, on May 16, 1903, in Bushnell Township, Montcalm County.  She was
a life member and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge in Ionia.  She was a
member of the First Christian Church of Ionia.  She married Bert H. Bailey on
July 3, 1920.  He preceded her in death on October 25, 1959.  She then married
J. H. Higbee on November 10, 1972.  He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1990.

She is survived by three sons, Donald Bailey of Greenville, Robert Bailey of
Ionia, and Gordon Bailey of Central Lake; one daughter, Helen Christiansen of
Stanton; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren; and one brother Wallace Perrien of Ionia.  She was
preceded in death by one brother, Charles, and one sister, Marie Stilwell.  

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Monday at the First Christian Church of
Ionia, with the Rev. F. Michael Valentine officiating.  The Organist will be
Thelma Walkington and the soloist will be Steve Hodgkins.  Burial will be in
Palo Cemetery.  Pallbearers include, Keith, Steven, Larry, David, James, and
Douglas Bailey.  Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.  The family
will be at Myers Memorial Chapel, Ionia, from 2 two 5 p.m. on Sunday.  Memorials
have been established for the First Christian Church Memorial Fund or the United
Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit, in care of the funeral home.
