Higgins, 81, prominent pioneer resident of Easton, who died Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock after a serious illness of a week’s duration. Dr. Paul L. Stewart of Ionia will conduct the services, and interment will be in Easton cemetery by the side of Mrs. Higgins. Mr. Higgins, who was born in Keene township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Higgins, settled in Easton township in 1884, being at the time of his death one of the township’s oldest residents. In 1886 he as married to Miss Abbie Currie whose death occurred in 1922. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Higgins, three of whom, Alvira aged 3, Charles aged 22, and Mrs. Almyra Bradley, 40, are dead. Surviving are two sons, Frank Higgins of South Ionia, and Clarence Higgins of Detroit, and two daughters, Mrs. Ewald Finnner of Detroit and Mrs. Gerald Stitt residing at the home. Grandchildren are Harold Higgins of South Ionia, Mrs. Noret Simpson of Lansing, Mrs. Volney Arnold of Williamston, Mrs. Richard Finner of Detroit, Charles Stitt of Detroit, Mrs. John Partin of Detroit, Jean Marie Higgins of Detroit, and Clarence Horace Higgins of Belding, and one brother, Norman Higgins of Keene. Surviving also are three great-grandchildren, Sherry Ann Finner of Detroit, Joan Winnifred Bradley of Ionia, and Geraldine Joyce Higgins of South Ionia. Mr. Higgins had served for eight years as highway commissioner of Easton township and for four years was a member of the school board in his district.
