(Bud) Higgins, 68, of 220 West Riverside Dr., died early Tuesday morning at the Ionia Manor where he had been a patient for the past five weeks. He was born in Easton township August 27, 1910, the son of Fran and Lana Stowell Higgins and attended Ionia High School. Mr. Higgins worked for the Ionia County Road Commission for 23 years and served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 10th Field Hospital of the First Army under General Patton in Europe. He married the former Dorothy Kistler in Indiana July 6, 1949 and they made their home on Riverside drive. Mr. Higgins also worked as a charge attendant at the Ionia State Hospital for 20 years retiring in 1973. He was a life member of the Ionia Moose Lodge, a former member of the Ionia Elks, a member of the Dawson American Legion post in Saranac, the Lester J. Sitts post VFW in Sheridan and a member of the Lansing Federation of Musicians. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Fate of Alto; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services are Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Leddick funeral home with Rev. Dr. Lloyd Walker of LeValley United Methodist church officiating. Burial is in Easton cemetery. A memorial fund is established for the American Cancer Society and for Mooseheart.
