Mr. Hyland was born in Hiawatha, upper peninsula, and attended the Lyons school, where he became active in athletics both in Lyons and in the county activities. He was an active member of Company H. national guards, in Ionia, from 1920 to 1925, when he moved to Lansing, and was employed at the Motor Wheel factory until his appointment with the state conservation department in 1930. Since then he has been a freelance worker in the conservation department and has been stationed in many different places throughout the state. A year and a half ago he was appointed superintendent of the state fish hatchery at Harrisville, and had on several occasions during rush seasons been transferred to the Bay City hatchery. It was for this reason that he was in Bay City when his death occurred. Mr. Hyland was rated by the state as one of their most promising young men in connecting with the fishing work. Surviving him as his wife, formerly Miss Mary Smith of Ionia; a daughter, four years old, and his father at Hiawatha, and his mother at Lansing.
