Hildinger of Cleveland, Ohio and former local resident and his wife lost their lives last Saturday morning trying to reach safety when fire fed by bottled gas destroyed a resort lodge in Minnesota. He was 77 and his wife was 70 years of age. Mr Hildinger was attending the Minnesota Poultry, Butter and Egg Association Convention, June 18-21 at Breezy Point Lodge at Pelican Lake, 20 miles north of Brainerd, Minn. He was killed when he jumped from his second story bedroom window and struck on his head and his wife died in a Brainerd hospital after attempting to slide down a rope and fell about 20 feet. The blaze breaking out about 5:30a.m. near the kitchen spread rapidly through the three story wood structure and adjoining annex. Flames shot 75 feet in the air trapping many of the guests. The Lodge was one of the show place resorts in northern Minnesota built of logs with 70 rooms in the main building besides the annex and 65 cottages in the 370 wooded acres on the lake shores, which was built by sportsman and late publisher Capt. Billy Fawcett. Loss was estimated at more than a million dollars. Frank, well known out the country by his association in the egg and poultry business, had lived at Cleveland, Ohio, since leaving here about 1930 when he became manager of the A.F.Thibodeau Co. plant there, which position he held at the time of his death. He spent his early life here and was employed in the business for more than 60 years and was first employed by Byron Archer and after Archer's death took over the business around 1913. His first wife Grace Toiles, who passed away in 1942, was also a local girl. Surviving are a son Roy of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, MrsAnna Kussmaul of Livonia; two brothers, Lawrence of Lansing and Byron of Ann Arbor and other relatives.
