Mrs. Helen H. Hiler, 58, wife of H. Murl Hiler, Ionia businessman, died at 6 p.m. at Blodgett Memorial hospital in Grand Rapids Saturday evening after an extended illness. Mrs. Hiler became ill more than a year ago and was admitted to Blodgett a week ago when her condition became critical. Active in local women’s groups and particularly in the Methodist church, Mrs. Hiler was a native of Ionia, born here July 31, 1905, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Haight. She attended Ionia public schools and was graduated from Ionia high school in 1923. She entered Western Michigan university at Kalamazoo where upon graduation accepted appointment as assistant to the dean of women, a position she retained until she resigned to marry. Mr. and Mrs. Hiler were married in Ionia, July 25, 1928. Mrs. Hiler was associated with a number of women’s organizations being a member of the Ionia Women’s Literacy club which she had served as secretary and for many years program committee chairman. For a number of years she served Ionia Girl Scouts as troop leader. She belonged to the Ionia Country club and they Women’s Golf association of that club. Active in church, she belonged to the WSCS and was an officer. Her major service to the church had been in youth work. Funeral services will be at the Methodist church Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Harold A. Jayne, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery mausoleum. Surviving are her husband, her mother, Mrs. Grace Haight, two daughters, Mrs. George Heim of Fox Point, Wis., near Milwaukee; and Susan of Ionia; two sisters, Mrs. Gerald L. Roberts of Lansing and Mrs. Wilson J. Dalzell of Ionia, and three grandchildren. A memorial for Mrs. Hiler is being established. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Boynton funeral home.
