Mrs. William Duesler, Mrs. Anna L. Wert, Mrs. Charles Buchholtz and Miss Katharine Hillabrandt, all of Johnston, N.Y. When about 17 years old he went to Gloversville, N.Y. where he managed a store until coming to Michigan in April, 1888. However, this was not the first time he had been in Michigan for on September 24, 1884 he was married to Miss Minnie C. Corey in North Plains township and they had returned to New York state for a period of three and one-half years before coming to Michigan to live permanently. In the spring of 1888 they moved to the present homestead where he has since resided. Eleven children were born to this union; Bessie, Iva, Janette, Clement, Margaret, Marion, Fanchon, June, Hermene, Keith and Kenneth, all of whom survive with the exception of Fanchon who died in infancy. Mrs. Hillabrandt died April 19, 1914, 25 years before her husband, lacking eight days. Mr. Hillabrandt was active in community affairs, interested in politics, for about 25 years moderator of the school district, a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Hubbardston to which church he brought his letter from the Presbyterian church of Gloversville, and a member of the Tuscan Lodge, No. 178, F & A. M. He was quiet and reserved, appreciated humor, looked on the sunny side of life, was a good neighbor and highly respected by all who knew him. Since last August he has been bed-ridden and through the days and nights of suffering has been very patient with those who gave him much of loving care. He died Tuesday morning, April 11, 1939, at the age of 82 years, nine months and 17 days. He is survived by the four sisters, ten children, Mrs. Bert Stedman, of Ronald Township, Mrs. William Rogers, Mrs. Harley Middlebrook, Keith and Kenneth of Hubbardston, Clement Hildebrandt of Saginaw, Mrs. Harley Greenmyre, at Avon Park, Fla., Mrs. Franklyn Morgan, Mrs. Rolla Hotz and Miss Hermene Hillabrandt of Detroit; 18 grandchildren, for great grandchildren and many friends though most of his old associates have preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday, April 13. Rev. John W. Broxholm officiated, and burial was in the East Plains cemetery.
