Hiller living north of town for over fifty years, died at his home Friday, Oct. 11. He was a pioneer of Sebewa and more especially Odessa township, settling in Odessa after his return from the Civil War. He was of German extraction, but a loyal American citizen. He leaves a splendid family as a liegacy to his adopted country. although for some years his health has been poor, he lived to the age of seventy-four years. ----------- OBITUARY Christian G. Hiller was born in Germany, January 31, 1844. Died October 11, 1918, aged 74 years 8 months and 11 days. He came to America in 1856 with his mother, two brothers and two sisters and to Sebewa township, Ionia county. Feb 1, 1864 he volunteered and enlisted in the 14th Michigan Infantry of Volunteers for Odessa township at the old Russell school house in the town known as Bonanza, and served during the rest of the war. After the war he returned to the place he owned at the time of his death. In the year of 1876 he was married to Isabelle Henderson. To this union two children were born, Ernest J of Charlevoix and Archie L. of Odessa. He leaves besides these to mourn his departure one brother, one sister and three grand children. The funeral was held at the home Friday. The sermon was preached by Rev. F. H. Mourer.
