She was born in Saranac and was the daughter of Emmet and Alice White. She came to Ionia as a teacher in the Ionia Public Schools in 1924. She was married to James V. Hilton in 1925 and they made their home in Ionia until recently when ill health required moving. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the church’s Mary Martha Circle; a member of the Silver Guild of the Ionia County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; and a member of the Ionia Country Club where she was a regular golfer for many years. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Vincent (Nancy) Turcotte of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Gordon (Connie) Hyde, also of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Gerst-Roth Funeral Home, 305 North Hudson St., Lowell, with the Rev. Robert Nixon of the Ionia First United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Lowell. The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service. A memorial has been established for the Ionia First United Presbyterian Church, in the care of the funeral home.
