Sarah L. Hinds, 81, of 747 East David highway died Sunday morning at Ionia 
Manor where she had been a patient two years.  

She was born September 22, 1889, in Ionia county the daughter of William and 
Rosina Names Payne.  September 17, 1917, she was married to Roy Hinds and 
lived her entire life on a farm in Orange township.  Mr. Hinds died February 
19, 1962.

A member of LeValley United Methodist church she also belonged to its WSCS, 
Women’s’ Christian Temperance Union, Farm Bureau, and extension club and was a 
4H leader for many years.  She was employed for a number of years at 
Stevenson’s department store in Ionia.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Bittenbender of Placerville, Calif., 
Mrs. Jerry Carpenter of Lake Odessa, and eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. 
Fred Barnes of Ionia.

Mrs. Hinds will be at Pickens funeral chapel in Lake Odessa until 11 am. 
Tuesday when she will be taken to LeValley United Methodist church for 
services at 1:30 p.m.  Rev. Luther Brokaw will officiate and interment will be 
at Balcom cemetery.
