R.A. McConnell officiated at the funeral services of Emerson Hinds in the church at Smyrna, Wednesday. Mr. Hinds was an old resident of the township, whose obituary will appear next week. ---------------- Obituary. Emerson Hinds was born in Manlis, Onondagua county, New York, the 7th of April, 1819, and he departed this life on the 6th of September, 1897, at his home in Otisco. He came to Michigan in 1840, soon after was married to Miss Louisa Hill, who died about four years ago. Together they started to carve a home in the unbroken wilderness. Four children were born to them, three of whom survive him, Mrs. Cyrus Beedy of Smyrna, Michigan; Maurice B. of North Dakota; and John, who resides on the old homestead in Otisco. A few years ago after his marriage his wife became an invalid and for twenty-three years he cared for her, never losing courage but toiling on that his children might be glad. Mr. Hinds was a genial, kind hearted man, not only in word but in deed, as many could attest that are unable to attend these last said rites. His last illness was brief but painful. When informed by his medical advisor that his case was hopeless he met the intelligence with the same brave spirit with which he conquered all other trials and discouragements.
