Hinds, 88, of route four, a life long resident of Orange township, died at 2:38 P.M. Saturday after a long illness. He was a member of the LeValley Methodist church and spent a lifetime of activity in his church. He was a former Sunday school superintendent and head of the board of trustees. He was superintendent of the building of the present LeValley church after the old one burned in 1922. For many years he served on pastor relations committee and usher of the church. He also was chairman of the board of commission for the Balcom cemetery association for 25 to 30 years. Mr. Hinds, a retired farmer, spent 50 to 60 years in the white faced Hereford Cattle business. He was born May 30, 1871 in Orange township, the son of William and Caroline (Russell) Hinds. He attended Benedict school and Ionia high school. January 8, 1896 he was married to Elsie M. Benedict and she died in 1950. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at LeValley Methodist church. The body of Mr. Hinds will be at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home until Tuesday noon. The Rev. J. Lawrence Ward will officiate and burial will be at Balcom cemetery.
