The funeral for Mahlon Hines was held from the Wortley & Baine chapel Sunday afternoon, he dying after a lingering illness of many years. The Rev. C. E. Thies officiated and the bearers were Charles E. Huntzinger, Walter A. Reed, Glenn L. Covert, and Leon T. Gilson. Burial was in Lakeside cemetery. Obituary Mahlon E. Hines was born near Charlotte, Mich., on February 17, 1874, and passed away at his home here Friday morning, July 24. He moved to this vicinity about 45 years ago and has made his home here almost continuously since. He was united in marriage to Bertha L. Hunt in 1907 and to this union was born one daughter Vera. Mr. Hines is survived by the widow and the daughter Mrs. A. E. Braden of Lansing. Mr. Hines’ case was a most remarkable one. Many years ago, as early as probably 1920, he contracted lung trouble and for many years his death was not unexpected, but a strong constitution kept him semi-active. Recently he was able to do marketing down town, but usually he was only able to walk down and back home only. Everyone watched his case with much interest.
