The Ionia Standard, Friday, March 17, 1905
Sophia, beloved wife of Charles Hinman, passed away at the home of her 
daughter, Mrs. Dwight Brooks, on Saturday afternoon at the ripe age of 81 
years and 4 months.  Mr. and Mrs. Hinman divided their time between their two 
children, Mrs. Brooks, and Dr. Hinman of Grand Rapids, and she had been ill 
some 13 weeks; the immediate cause of death was paralysis.  The husband and 
two children were at her bedside at time of death.  The bereft husband is also 
81 years and past, and they have journeyed on life’s great highway as 
helpmeets and loving companions for 57 years.  The remains were taken to 
Sparta, Kent county, Monday afternoon, for interment.
