The death of Mr. Hitchcock. -  Mr. Bethuel Hitchcock, of this township, died at 
his residence 3 ½ miles north of this village, on Saturday last, in the 64th 
year  of his age.  The deceased was among the old residents of this township, 
having removed here some 28 years ago, at which time he purchased a half 
section of land with 160 acres improvements for $10 per acre.  His sons who 
were then young and green, remained at home and worked together in clearing up 
and paying for the farm, and are now possessed of a fine estate.  Mr. 
Hitchcock’s only daughter departed some years ago, and is now residing in the 
northern part of the State.  Mrs. Hitchcock, the wife of the deceased, preceded 
her husband some months to the other shore.  The funeral services of Mr. 
Hitchcock took place at the Baptist church yesterday and were largely attended, 
showing the universal esteem in which the deceased was held.
