Lake Odessa Wave Times, 18 Jul 1919

Leon E. Hixon, a Portland jeweler, stepped on a rusty nail a few weeks ago; 
later lockjaw set in and he suffered intensely until his death which occurred 
but a couple of weeks after.  When the accident first occurred Mr. Hixon gave 
it no more than the passing attention until after the infection had set in.  He 
was one of the leading business men of the community was village treasurer and 
a member and officer of the local Masonic lodge.
