Hizer were held Monday afternoon at the Portland Methodist church with the Rev. Carter of Grand Rapids officiating. Hizer, 81, died at his home in Grand Rapids Friday, April 11, following an illness of two weeks. He was a native of Lyons and a frequent visitor in the village. During the service, the Rev. Carter read several poems Mr. Hizer had written, one the day before his death. Mrs. Gladys Hill of Portland was organist. Bearers were Fred Maus, Richard O’Neil, Harry Bowsher, John Spotts and Joseph H. White. The name of the sixth bearer could not be obtained. Burial was in Portland cemetery. Attending the services from this vicinity were Mrs. Irwin Fineis, Mrs. Noeman Zemer, Mrs. Jennie Earl, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. White, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bowsher, Mr. and Mrs. John Spotts and Fred Maus.
