Mrs. Hobbs was the eldest of a family of eight children of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Sanford, who in the early days were residents of Pleasant street, this city. Mrs. Hobbs was a woman about 65 years of age, and left Ionia many years ago. She was Mary Sanford, and married in the west probably 40 years ago. It was only last week that she was in Michigan and while east paid a visit to all her brothers and sisters. Her death is the second among the children in the family. The six who survive are Mrs. Adelaide Hughes of Big Rapids, Mrs. John (Fanny) Burns of St. Louis, Bert Sanford of Grand Rapids, Frank Sanford and William Sanford of Danville, Illinois, George Sanford of Wichita, Kansas. The announcement of the death of Mrs. Hobbs came to Ionia from Mrs. Burns, who was located in her Maccabee work at Duluth, Minn. Mrs. Burns went from Duluth to Denver, while Mr. Burns came to Ionia this morning from St. Louis to make the funeral arrangements. Mrs. Hobbs was taken ill within two days after her arrival home, having contracted pneumonia. Her death was entirely unexpected. Mrs. Burns left Denver Tuesday for Michigan with the remains, and will arrive in Ionia Thursday morning at 11:25. The funeral will be attended from St. John’s Episcopal church at two o’clock in the afternoon, burial in Highland Park cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Sanford, who died many years ago were early Ionia pioneers, and were among the first members of the Episcopal church here.
