March 17, 1927 JOHN HODGE, VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR, DEAD John Hodge, a veteran of the Civil war and a resident of Ionia county for more that half a century, died suddenly at 1 o'clock Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Guy Conner, 721 West Main street. Mr. Hodge, who made his home with his daughter for the past two years, had suffered with asthma for two years. Wednesday evening Mr. Hodge visited with members of the family before retiring. Mrs. Conner went into the bedroom ad found her father was all right and returned about 10 minutes later to find that he was dead. He served as highway commissioner of Easton for a number of years. Before the death of Mrs. Hodge 14 years ago they were numbered among the prominent farmers of Easton township. Mr. Hodge served a few months in the Civil war and returned home because of injuries. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Guy Conner and Mrs. Nella Rier of Ronald. Rev. W.F. Kendrick will conduct the funeral service at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Conner, 721 West Main street, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the family lot in the Easton cemetery.
