The Ionia County News, Thursday, May 4, 1939


John Hodgkins, Sr., 90, Prairie Creek, died early Sunday evening, April 30.  
He had been ill for several weeks.  Mr. Hodgkins was born in New York City, 
N.Y., January 6, 1849.  He was about 13 years old when his parents came to 
Michigan and Ionia county.  He was married in 1873 to Miss Ann Barber, who 
died about 12 years ago.

Mr. Hodgkins is survived by a daughter, Miss Emma, and two sons, William of 
Grand Rapids and John, Jr., and two grandchildren, Frances and Richard 
Hodgkins, all of Ionia.

Rev. A. J. Westmaas officiated at the funeral service which was held from his 
late home at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, May 2.  Burial was in Tuttle 
cemetery.
