Hodgman, 78, of 362 Burgess St., Lyons, died Sunday in St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born on Dec. 31, 1901, in Lyons Township, the daughter of George and Hattie Hodgman. Miss Hodgman graduated from Lyons High School in 1921 and from Eastern Michigan University in 1922. She taught for three years in the Mesick and Buckley School System and for 41 years in the Lyons-Muir and Ionia Public School systems. Miss Hodgman retired in 1968. During her years of teaching, she taught into the third generation of many families. She lived in the same house for 75 years. Miss Hodgman was a member of the Lyons Baptist church for more than 61 years, clerk of her church for more than 43 years, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Women’s Missionary Group, an Awana Girls leader for more than nine years, and a member of MEA, NEA and the Retired Teachers Association. She also served on the election boards of both Lyons Township and the village of Lyons. Miss Hodgman is survived by one brother, Raymond, of Ionia; two sisters, Julia Hodgman of Lyons and Mildred Simon of Muir; five nieces and two nephews. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Lyons Baptist Church. Burial will be made in Lyons Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lyons Baptist church and the Cancer Society. Arrangements are being made by the Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir.
