He was born on October 12, 1966 and grew up on Gordneck Lake in Portage,MI with his mom, dad and two sisters.He graduated from Portage Central High School in 1984. At an early age Bruce began working for his dad at Elzinga-Hoeksema Greenhouses.Over the years he went on to open his own businesses in maintenance and snowplowing.He moved to Ionia around 2008. In 2010 he married his wife,Kim, and in 2013 they together started Hoeksema Maintenance Services in Ionia. He spent his whole life as an avid fisherman. he especially loved bass fishing and took part in many tournaments.In his younger years he enjoyed boating and water skiing with his friends.In school his favorite sport was ice hockey and he eventually joined the Kalamazoo wings.He also had a great love for snowmobiles. He could usually be found at his shop building sleds or at the race track where he loved drag racing on the ice and grass. Bruce was a beautiful man, both inside and out. He had a generous heart for animals and loved making people smile.He was very happy and energetic. His outgoing sense of humor captivated the hearts of those around him. He is and will always be dearly missed by all who knew him. Bruce is survived by his loving wife Kimberly; mother Kathleen Hoeksema; daughter Lindsey (Reggie)Allen; grandson Darius Allen; son Kevin Hoeksema; sisters Brenda (Dennis)Bonn and Bethany (Steven) Onken; five nephews, one nieee and five beautiful great-nieces; his mother-in-law Denise Peabody, with whom Bruce was also very close; as well as a number of close friends.He is also very loved and missed by his dog Jed and his four kitties Sammie, Marley, Bugsy and Thomas. He was preceded in death by his father Edwin Hoeksema. A Celebration of Life for Bruce will be held on Saturday April 27, 2024 from 1- 4pm at the Steele street Hall, located at 115 S.Steele Street in Ionia. All Memorial contributions will be donated to the Ionia County Animal Shelter. Bruces family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers at SKLD Medical Residence of Ionia..
