Hofbauer, 67, of Ionia died on Wednesday at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 3, 1925, in Lanse, the son of George and Lillian Emory Hofbauer. He was married March 20, 1947 in Lanse, to the former Marilyn Auger. She survives. He was graduated from the Iron Mountain High School and attended Western Michigan University for one year. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Ionia. He and his family moved to Ionia in 1967. He worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections from 1949 to 1986 retiring as Assistant Deputy Warden at Riverside Correctional Facility. He was a life member of the V.F.W. He was a golfer and active in his golf league. He is survived by three sons, Thomas of Orlando, Gerald of Dimondale, and Dr. Charles of West Palm Beach; two daughters, Linda of Sault St. Marie and Kristine of Ionia; five grandchildren; his sister Eilleen of Ashland, Wisc. He was preceded in death by his brother George. Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. on Monday at the Cook Funeral Home, Ionia, with the Rev. Charles Hall officiating. The family will be at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. until the time of service on Monday. An Honor Guard will be provided by the Michigan Department of Corrections. A memorial has been established for the Juvenile Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
