Mrs. John Hoffman died last Wednesday evening, Oliver Hitchcock early Thursday morning. Mrs. Hoffman had been ill two weeks, but was feeling better that evening. Her son-in-law, Adelbert Jackson, noticed something peculiar about her breathing and aroused the rest of the family. She died a few moments later. Mrs. Hoffman, whose maiden name was Ellen Vickery, was born at Port Huron June 19, 1861. When she was 12 years old her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Vickery, moved to Carson City. There she married Mr. Hoffman 47 years ago. They came to Portland in 1906, where Mr. Hoffman is employed as one of the engineers at the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture Co. plant. The family reside in the first house north of the railroad tracks, near the factory. The following children survive: Mrs. Lizzie Jackson, Mrs. Grace Lumbert, Mrs. George Stewart, George and Lester Hoffman, Portland; Mrs. Margaret Adams, Clarence Hoffman, Lansing. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, Saturday, Rev. J. H. Bancroft officiating. Burial was in Portland Cemetery.
