George Hoffman Loses Wife Following Series Of Accidents To Members Of Family Tragedy has surrounded the home of George Hoffman in the east part of the village recently and came to a culmination last Friday night when his wife passed away following an illness from tuberculosis. Three weeks ago Mr. Huffman’s daughter, Miss Mildred, sustained two broken legs in an auto wreck near the country club. About the same time the mother took to her bed, her condition being so serious that she was not informed of the accident to her daughter who was taken to St. Lawrence hospital at Lansing, and later to the home of her sister, Mrs. Emanuel Morgan, at Grand Ledge. Week before last Mr. Hoffman’s grandson, Frederick Tian? of Lansing had one of his legs cut off in an accident in that city while riding with another boy on a motorcycle which was run into by an automobile. Mrs. Hoffman was 46 years of age. She was formerly Lucy Esch and was born in Westphalia. Twenty-four years ago she was married to Mr. Hoffman and since that time has resided in Portland and vicinity. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Patrick church.
