J. Hoffman Expires Suddenly Death Comes at Belding, Where She Had Gone to Attend Funeral. Devout Religious Worker. When Mrs. Charles J. Hoffman of 1414 Fulton street, E., went to Belding Thursday to attend the funeral services of her brother-in-law, Henry Krupp, it proved to be her last trip. Mrs. Hoffman died very suddenly early Saturday morning at the home of the sister which had been stricken by the death of Mr. Krupp earlier in the week. Mrs. Hoffman was in perfect health when she went to Belding. Therefore the telephone message announcing her death was a severe shock to her family. Acute indigestion is believed to have caused death. Mrs. Hoffman had intended to remain in Belding to comfort her sorrowing sister until Sunday. Daughters in Sisterhood, Mrs. Hoffman was just past sixty-one years of age. She was a member of St. Andrews cathedral and was affiliated with the Altar society and the Hill St. John’s society. Two of her daughters are in the Order of the Holy Cross, Sister Mary Ambrose and Sister Maria Loretella. The other children are Miss Amelia, Miss Caroline and Miss Louise Hoffman and Charles J. Hoffman, jr. She also leaves her husband, who is a retired confectioner and baker, formerly in business for many years on Monroe avenue, N.W. Time of the funeral will be announced later. ---- Mrs. Chas. Hoffman Dies Very Suddenly The sudden death of Mrs. Charles Hoffman of Grand Rapids Saturday morning in Miriam was a great shock to her relatives and many friends. She came from home last week to attend the funeral of her sister’s husband, Henry Krupp, and remained to make a short visit with relatives and old friends before returning. On Friday she went to her sister-in-law’s, Mrs. Anthony Shindorf’s, who lives with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Scheidt, to remain with her over night. At about three o’clock the next morning she awoke with acute pains in her chest and stomach. Mrs. Shindorf, with whom she was sleeping, was quickly awakened, but before she could render any relief or get medical assistance Mrs. Hoffman expired. Mrs. Shindorf said her sister-in-law during the evening and after they had retired felt as well as usual and appeared very happy. They were having a splendid visit. The physician pronounced death due to an attack of acute indigestion. Her remains were taken to Grand Rapids, to her late home, so suddenly bereft of wife and mother, for the funeral and burial service. The deceased whose maiden name was Caroline Shindorf, was sixty-one years old and besides her husband she leaves six children, five daughters and a son. Mrs. Hoffman was a sister of George and Henry Shindorf and Mrs. Charles Alberts of Chesaning. She spent her girlhood days here on the old farm.
