Donald Burton Hoffman, of Sheridan and formerly of Portland, age 87, passed away
on Oct. 13, 2009.  He now joins in heaven his loving wife of 60 years, June, who
preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 2005.  He was born in Aug. 7, 1922 in
Portland the son of Leslie and Myrtle (Hause) Hoffman.  Don proudly served in
World War II and was a member of the Portland VFW Post #4090.  He enjoyed
hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family at Crooked Lake.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jeanie (Ed) Utter of Holt and Vicki
(Charles) Stephens of Ionia; grandchildren, Maria (Lange) Himebaugh of Anthem,
Ariz., Scott (Jennifer) Stephens of Ionia, Chuck (Amie) Stephens of Ionia, Gayle
(Blaine) Etcheverry of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Kathy (Gregg) Mahlich of Ionia,
Mike (Jennifer) Stephens of Newaygo, Jamie (Shannon) Morehouse of Holt and
Nicole Stephens of Ionia; great-grandchildren, Alex Himebaugh, Jordan and Ryan
Stephens, Taylor Stephens, Brandon and Cameron Mahlich, Jordan and Ashton
Stephens, Austin, Diana and Mary Morehouse and Kaelyn Daugherty; one
sister-in-law Viola Thelen of Portland and several nieces and nephews.  His wife
and parents, along with his two brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct.  16, 2009 at the
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland with Rev. Larry King, Presiding. 
Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery.  Military Honors will be provided by
the Portland VFW Post #4090.  The family will receive friends at the funeral
home on Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of service.  For those desiring
memorial contributions may be made to the Portland VFW Post #4090 or to the
American Alzheimer’s Association, in memory of Mr. Donald Burton Hoffman.
