Ionia Sentinel Standard, 5 May 1924

Elias Hoffman died at his home near Matherton Sunday afternoon at an advanced 
age.  He came to Michigan a good many years ago, having driven to the state 
from Nebraska by way of Ohio with a team of black horses, which lived to be 
more than 30 years of age, and a canopy-top buggy, which he continued to use 
until ill health compelled him to retire from farming not very long ago.

He owned a good farm but lived alone, his nearest relative, Mrs. Daniel Stoudt, 
senior, having died some years ago.  The funeral will be held Wednesday 
afternoon at 1 o’clock, sun time, from the home of his niece, Mrs. Charles 
Ludwick, and burial will be made in North Plains cemetery.
