Hogan, 85, of Ionia died Saturday, March 15 at the Ferguson Hospice Care Center in Grand Rapids. Doris Helene Andrews was born July 17, 1911 in Orange Township, the daughter of Charles and Clarice (Goodemoot) Andrews. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1930. Doris graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1933 as a registered nurse. She returned to Ionia and was married May 29, 1936 to Cornelius J. Hogan. She owned and operated the First Ionia Hospital on Jackson Street. She later sold it and went to work for Dr. Seidel. The couple moved to Detroit in 1949 where she continued nursing at Grace Hospital. After her husband’s death in 1960, Doris returned to Ionia and went to work at the new Ionia County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1983. She proudly served in the nursing profession for 50 years. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church in Ionia and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years in Detroit and Ionia. She is survived by one daughter, Cathryn (Bill) Gladding of Ionia; one son, Todd (Diane) Hogan of Grand Forks, N.D.; three grandchildren, Wendy and Rory Scheving of Fenton, Patrick C. Hogan of Burnesville, MN and Michael and Ellen Hogan of Brooklyn Park, MN; four great-grandchildren, Todd, Meghan, Shannon and Morgan Scheving; one sister, Phyllis (Glen) Carigon of Ionia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her two sisters, Edna Huntley and Margaret Marion. The funeral Mass will be Wednesday, March 19, 1997 at 11 a.m. from the SS. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Hall presiding. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Envelopes are available at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.
