Her father, David P Weeks was the commanding officer at Fort McCrea during the Seminole Indian war, and her mother was the only white woman within the fort. At the close of the war her parents came to Michigan by way of the Mississippi river and its tributaries and Lake Michigan. After landing at Grand Haven then came by ox cart to a land warrant near Maple Rapids of 160 acres. With them came Mr. and Mrs. Albert Russell with whom they have been close friends during the years. She was married on March 30th 1876 to Ralph L. Hoge, and since that time she has resided in Hubbardston with the exception of a short period of time when they lived at St. Louis, Michigan. The experiences which she has had during her life time were those of any pioneer and the things she learned from them made her life very helpful to those who knew her. Never playing an important part in community affairs, she nevertheless has left an imprint upon its life, because her husband was for many years active in the G.A.R. she entered into the activities of the woman’s Relief Corps. She leaves to mourn her departure, the husband, Ralph L. Hoge, a son Albert David Hoge, a grandson, Ralph Byron Hoge, all of Hubbardston, one sister, Mrs. Norman Campbell of Grand Ledge, and seven nieces and three nephews. The funeral services were held from the Hubbardston Methodist Episcopal Church on Thursday, November 10th and the burial was in the West Side cemetery at Hubbardston. The Rev. John W. Broxholn officiated at the services.
