Holbrook, 75, of Reed City, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at his residence. He was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Belding, the son of Volley and Nathala Holbrook. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to Michigan, and for more than 30 years, he was employed in the concrete construction business. While working for B.H. Sergeant Construction, he was foreman for the piling construction of the Mackinac Bridge, which was completed in 1957. Some of his equipment is placed in the historical center there. He was a member of Belding VFW Post 4406, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Belding, and the Michigan Laborers Union. In 1947, he married Barbara June Forgar. She preceded him in death in 1989. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Volley and Rojeanna of Carson City, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Connie and James Swarts of Paradise, Calif.; Adriane Mothersell of Reed City; Loretta Kay and Ernest Yeomans of Lakeview; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Maureen of Miami, Okla., Neil and Kathy of Mancelona; one sister, Lillie Carlan of Muskegon; one sister-in-law, Sally Holbrook of Belding; several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher; a brother, Volley; a sister, Polly, a great-granddaughter, Hanna; a great-grandson, Travis; and a son-in-law, Dennis Mothersell. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rogers-Mohnke Funeral Home, Big Rapids, with Father Joe Fix officiating. Burial with military honors is in Six Lakes Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan or the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home, where his family will greet friends after 10 a.m. Tuesday.
