Holbrook of Hubbardston and known well throughout this vicinity, died at 9:30 Tuesday evening, August 29, following a stroke suffered Monday. He was 70 years old. He served Ionia county as clerk from 1903 to 1908 and in 1936 was a candidate for the office of probate judge. For several years Mr. Holbrook was associated with the Michigan Produce Company of Carson City of which he was president for a period of time. He was also trustee of the village board. Fraternally, Mr. Holbrook was a member of the F.&A.M., Hubbardston, and the B.P.O.E., Ionia lodge. Harry Julius Holbrook was born in Hubbardston, March 28, 1874, and had spent all of his life in the county. He was united in marriage with Miss Theo Zank of Ionia. Mrs. Holbrook, with their two daughters, Mrs. R. Spencer of Boston, Mass., and Mrs. Robert Kelley, now of Hubbardston, survive him. Mr. Holbrook was a member of the firm of Cowman and Holbrook in Hubbardston from 1931 until a short time ago when he sold his interest in the store to his partner, Ray Cowman. Rev. Brown officiated at the funeral which was held from this late home in Hubbardston at two o’clock, Friday afternoon, Sept. 1. Burial was in the West Side cemetery.
