Holbrook, 51, died Sunday at 7:30 p.m., one and one-half hours after he was admitted to Belding hospital. He had been ill about six months. Mr. Holbrook was born at Onaway, November 19, 1899, and married Nathella Brewer July 2, 1921. They had lived here 27 years. He was employed at Gibsons for 10 years and was president and state representative of the VFW Dads. Surviving besides his wife Nathella are two daughters, Lillie, Mrs. Lyle Hock, and Nathella, Mrs. Ed Dykema, both of Muskegon, four sons, Volley, Melvin Jr., just returned from the service, and Neil of this city and Adrian of Muskegon and one sister, Sgt. Mildred Holbrook, A.A.S. of Barksdale, Louisiana. Funeral services were held at Ellis Funeral Home Wednesday at 2:30 with Rev. H. S. Ellis officiating clergyman. Burial was at River Ridge cemetery. Pallbearers were Leo Bannister, Loren Brady, Sidney LaFonde, Don Caverly, Loren Belding, and Erval Ring.
