Holcomb, 91, of 6001 South Sacramento Avenue, Chicago, and formerly of Belding, died Monday at Hines Memorial Hospital in Maywood, Ill. He was born April 25, 1899, in Isabella County, the son of Clarence and Alice Austin Holcomb. He retired in 1971 after 40 years as a cab driver in Chicago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chicago. Holcomb was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was wounded while serving in France. He was a former member of the American Legion, Hugo Fales Post 203, in Belding. He married Gladys Bentley on August 31, 1921, in Belding. She preceded him in death in 1976. Surviving him is one daughter, Elizabeth Kieskowski of Berwyn, Ill.; two sons, Edwin Holcomb of Belding and Herbert Holcomb of Chicago; one brother, Glen Holcomb of Belding, Also surviving are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters preceded him in death. Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the River Ridge Cemetery in Belding. The Rev. Roy Shepherd, of the First Baptist Church of Belding, will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church. Arrangements were made by Johnson Funeral Home in Belding.
