Holmes, 84, died Thursday morning at 4:00 o’clock at his home in Saranac. He had been in ill health for many years. He was born January 25, 1858, in Leslie, and had lived in the vicinity of Ionia nearly all his life. He bought a home in Saranac in 1914, and for 17 years was a barber there. He retired from business 11 years ago. His wife, Amanda, died three and one-half years ago, and his only child, Vivian Homes Eddy, died in March, 1922. He is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Alma Button who has made her home with him for many years. Also a niece, Mrs. Gladys McNall of Romeo, a sister, Mrs. Cora Westfall, of Duluth, Minn., survive. Funeral services will be held at the Morris funeral home at 2:00 o’clock Sunday, with Rev. F.C. Loomis officiating. Burial will be in the Saranac cemetery.
